PHE is currently conducting a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment of the upland portion of the Liberty Landing Marina site at Liberty State Park. The purpose of the study is to determine whether past or present uses of the property or immediately adjacent properties have the potential to contribute to site contaminants.
As part of the study, PHE is conducting a review of historic maps and aerial photography. A computer search of local, State, and Federal databases has been undertaken for leaking USTs; Superfund sites; solid waste landfills, incinerators, and transfer stations; RCRA and CERCLA hazardous waste generators, reported spills (ERNS), and corrective action sites. PHE is correlating historic soil and groundwater sampling data with applicable current criteria to determine if the potential for additional remediation or further study may be necessary. Further, we are conducting a range of interviews with relevant local, County, and State offices to determine whether environmental incidents, such as spills or illegal discharges, have occurred. |
