Potomac-Hudson Environmental, Inc, (PHEnv) was retained to design and conduct a noise evaluation of operational activities at the AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals campus located in Wilmington, Delaware.

Specifically, the noise study was designed to (i) collect noise measurements representative of the exposure of adjacent residential receptors to noise levels generated by facility activities, (ii) observe the facility operation to determine correlation between operations and sound generation, (iii) compare results with applicable local and State noise ordinances, and (iv) develop facility-wide noise mitigation strategies.

Located in New Castle County, Delaware, the AstraZeneca Pharmaceutical campus and environs were exposed to numerous complex noise sources due to its proximity to airport flight patterns, railroads, industry, and numerous converging roadways.

Because the majority of community noise complaints are based upon nuisance noise during nighttime hours, PHEnv designed the study to reflect the collection and subjective analysis during the most sensitive time periods.

Additional key components of the noise evaluation included quantization of individual existing noise sources, computer modeling of future noise sources, and proposed new construction noise impacts.
